Women at work

Women at Work are a representation emblematic of the late period in Leopold Gottlieb’s work. The colours he chose for this work are light with dominant whites and blues, with distinct accents of red and navy. The artist decided to leave some of the raw base exposed – using the colour of cardboard as one more means of expression. The composition is made up of two women having a break, leaning towards each other. The universal way of depicting their figures, classical treatment of draped clothes and indeterminate background render this scene timeless, as well as highly intimate and lyrical.
